Elizabeth “Betty” Duttenhefer, 93, formerly of Dodge, ND, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Betty’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery, Dodge, ND. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Elizabeth Hellman was born October 27, 1914 on the family farm 10 miles southwest of Glen Ullin, ND, the daughter of Valentine and Elizabeth (Schaaf) Hellman. She was raised and educated in the Glen Ullin area.
Betty married Joseph Duttenhefer on November 24, 1941 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Dodge. They farmed south of Dodge until 1958 when they moved into Dodge. While in Dodge Betty worked for the public school as a cook from 1958 to 1962. Her husband Joe died on August 29, 1977, and Betty moved to Pioneer Haven in Dickinson in 1979 and resided there until becoming a resident of the St. Luke’s Home in 2004.
Betty’s greatest love was her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed playing cards, Blitz and Pinochle, embroidery, listening to old time music, and volunteering at with RSVP.
Betty is survived by six sons, Leo (Phyllis) Duttenhefer, Dickinson, Jim (Mary) Duttenhefer, Dickinson, Charles (Gertie) Duttenhefer, Hastings, Minn., Eugene (Dianne) Duttenhefer, Dodge, Gary (Betty) Duttenhefer, Dickinson, and Larry (Julie) Duttenhefer, Galchutt; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; and infant son, Pius; seven brothers; and two sisters.
