Agnes Caroline Rebel was born July 18, 1929 on the family’s homestead, 10 miles south of Richardton, ND the daughter of Valentine and Maria Rebel; she was the third of eight children. She spent almost her entire life in the Richardton area, with the exception of a year in Minneapolis, MN while living with her Aunt Jean. She had to come back home to see her new baby brother, Richard. Agnes worked as a live-in nanny and housekeeper for families in the Antelope and Richardton area until she graduated from St. Mary’s High School in the spring of 1947.

Agnes married William A. Alpert on August 2, 1947 and they lived on his family’s homestead, seven miles south of Richardton, where they raised four children, farmed and had a dairy. After their children had moved on with their own families, Agnes started working at Fred’s Bakery in Dickinson, and over time she also cooked at the Richardton Hospital, cafes and bowling alley in Richardton and Taylor. Agnes loved to spend time with her family, and if she had to travel that was a bonus. Whether it was for family and friends or if it was for a social gathering, especially if there was going to be dancing ~ she was ready to go. She was active in the Springvale Homemakers Club, Ladies Aid and the Royal Neighbors of America. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking and raising animals, she always had her own petting zoo. Gardening was another hobby, and she was an annual participant at the Farmers Market until the progression of Alzheimer’s disease caused her to move to St. Benedict’s Health Center, where she has been for the past seven years. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Agnes is survived by her husband, William; four children, Linda (Richard) Schell, Hettinger, Les (Sarah) Alpert, Richardton, Lois (Bob) Bryant, Lawton, OK, and William R. Alpert, Richardton; four grandchildren, Sonya Jo Erickson, Keith Rummel, Nicole Alpert and Bobby Bryant; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Schinzel, Danielle Erickson, and Tanner Rummel; five siblings, Dorothy (Ervin) Mutschelknaus, Hebron, Eleanor Gathright, Hebron, Albert (Geraldine) Rebel, Weippe, ID, Frank Rebel, Hebron, and Richard (Isabelle) Rebel, Hebron; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen (Hank) Raaf, George Gathright, Marie (Frank) Burger, and Pauline Rebel; and one grandson, Stacy Bryant.
