Clarence Virgel Lindquist, 91, Dickinson, ND, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Clarence’s funeral service will be at 2 pm, Monday, March 31, 2008 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Reverend Lisa Lewton officiating. Interment will follow at Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 6 pm, Sunday and from 8 am to 11 am, Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Clarence Lindquist was born October 3, 1916 to William and Christine (Olson) Lindquist at Nelson, MN. He was raised on the family farm near Nelson and graduated from Glenwood High School at Glenwood, MN in 1935. Because of his interest in photography, Clarence worked in his Uncle Ernie’s photo studio in Glenwood. He later moved to Bismarck, ND and worked at Naegle’s Photo Studio, where he met his future wife, Magdalen “Maggie”. Clarence and Magdalen Hauck were married May 11, 1940 at Nelson.
After his discharge from the US Army in November 1945, he moved his family to Beulah, ND to start a small grocery and meat market. In 1950 they moved to Dickinson and continued in the grocery business, owning and operating the Red and White Store. He later worked at the City Grocery, Osborn Photo Studio, and Mann’s Automotive in Dickinson.
Clarence retired in 1982. He and Maggie spent many enjoyable retirement summers at their lake trailer located at the New Town Marina. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards with friends. Clarence was a long time member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. He had been a resident of St. Benedict’s Health Center since 2004.
Clarence is survived by his three sons, Dennis, Dickinson, Dean (Deb), Bismarck, and James (Marlene), Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Steven and Matthew Lindquist, Michael (Rachel) Lindquist, Melanie and Ryan Lindquist, Kari (Beau) Weber, Tracy (Travis) Price, and Jason (Jeannine) Lindquist; six great-grandchildren and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalen, one brother, Harold and one sister, Dorothy.
