Alma M. Monke, 83, Dickinson, ND died Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Alma’s Memorial Service will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 706 5th Ave. SW, Dickinson with Pastor Bob Karie officiating. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to service at the church.
Alma M. Hartman was born March 24, 1924 on her parents, Louis and Anna (Witte) Hartman farm near Regent, ND. She attended grade school at a country school near her home, and graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Regent High School. Alma completed a two year business degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.
Alma worked for eight years in accounting and bookkeeping for AT&T in Fargo, ND. She returned to her parents farm in Regent. On December 26, 1952 she married her husband, Willis E. Monke at Zion Lutheran Church, Regent. After their honeymoon in the southwest, Willis was drafted and they resided in Olympia, WA. Following his honorable discharge, they began farming north of Regent. In 1957 their daughter, Rhonda was born and to make school more accessible, they moved into Regent, where they remained for many years. They later retired from farming and moved to their current address in Dickinson. This marriage was blessed with 55 years.
Alma enjoyed growing flowers, working in her garden, photography, their pets and all birds and wildlife. Sewing, reading and working on crossword puzzles were a source of relaxation for her.
Alma is survived by her husband, Willis; their daughter, Rhonda R. Monke, Olathe, KS; and two brothers, Ralph Hartman, Dickinson, and Clarence Hartman, Regent. She was preceded in death by her parents.
