Norbert M. Amann, 97, formerly of Richardton, entered eternal rest on Friday, September 22, 2023 at St. Benedict’s Heath Center, Dickinson. Norbert’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, September, 26, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Fr. Thomas Wordekemper, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Richardton. Military honors will be provided by the Richardton American Legion Theo R. Zech Post 180. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Robert Bohn presiding. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at the church.

Norbert was born on February 12, 1926 to Phillip and Julia (Thomas) Amann.  He attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from the Assumption Abbey High School in 1943. Drafted into the Army November of 1944 he trained at Camp Roberts in California. He was sent overseas to Mindanao, Philippine’s where he was awarded the “Combat Badge” for being exposed to enemy fire. Upon returning to the U.S., he served the rest of his enlistment at Camp Hood in Texas.

Norbert married Arleen Meyer on July 16, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dickinson. Making a home and memories on the family farm north of Richardton, where they raised five children: Mark (Karen Wheeler), Nora, Sara (Paul Robbie), Gail (Jerry Gores), and Philip (Anita Schmidt).  Norbert is survived by ten grandchildren Dustin Amann (Anna Hollerung), Julia, Jay and Jill Robbie, Maxwell Erdle, Grant and John Gores, Paige (Kevin Gilgallon), Kathryn and Jack Amann, and two great-grandchildren Will and Mae Amann.

In 1990, Norbert married Leona (Stevahn) Pekas of Mott. They enjoyed life together and remained active well into their golden years residing in rural Richardton and most recently Dickinson.  Leona’s surviving children include David (Karen) Pekas, Julie (Ron) Fischer, Janelle Binstock, and Joleen (Donald) Kilzer.

Norbert was involved in his rural community. He served on several boards: Farmers Union Oil Company, Richardton Public School, and Southwest Water. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post with over 75 years of continuous service in the organization. Norbert was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton and the affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, serving as a 3rd and 4th degree member and enjoyed square dancing.

Norbert is preceded in death by first spouse Arleen; stillborn daughter, Mary; infant grandson, Zach Amann; parents; siblings, Joseph, Eleanor (Joe) Schultz, William, Maggie (John) Forster, Victor, and Ervin; and step-son Douglas Pekas.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary’s Parish and or St. Mary’s Cemetery.
