Gerald Schaff, 74, formerly of Belfield, died Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the Legacy Home, Gillette, WY. Gerald’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2023 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield, with Fr. Shane Campbell as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Belfield American Legion William C. Blair Post 144. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 6:30 p.m. with Deacon Loren Kordonowy presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass on Monday.

Gerald Schaff was born October 8, 1948 in Dickinson, the son of George and Mary (Hecker) Schaff. He was raised and educated in Fryburg and Belfield, having graduated from Belfield High School in 1966.

Gerald served honorably in the United States Army from May 10, 1968 to November 13, 1970. During his military service he received the Bronze Star Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallentry (w/palm). Upon his discharge he began his career in the oilfield, having worked in Tioga, Sidney, MT and eventually Gillette where he retired.

He enjoyed reading, playing cards, keeping track of the stock market and coming home for family reunions. He belonged to the American Legion in Belfield for over 50 years.

Gerald will be remembered as a kind and gentle man.

Gerald is survived by his siblings, Larry (Vicky) Schaff, Watford City, Sandy (Dave) Crawford, Watertown, SD, Sheila Schaff, Denver, CO, Connie (Don) Dewey, Helena, MT, Anna (Rod) Heupel, Tacoma, WA, Susann (Keith) Wolf, Belfield, Rose Cusack, Aurora, CO, Karen Weinhardt, Gillette, and Sharon (Cary) Decker, Dickinson; brother-in-law, Ralph Hoerner, Billings, MT; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary; sister, Deborah Hoerner; brother, Leland (Joyce) Schaff; brother-in-law, Daniel Dennis; and niece, Jennifer Dennis.
