Daniel’s Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. MT, Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at New England City Cemetery.
Dan was born on May 11, 1961, to Albert T. and Eileen (Molstad) Stagl and grew up on the family farm northeast of New England, North Dakota. He attended first grade at Clark Township School and continued his education at New England Public School, graduating in 1979. Growing up, he explored the countryside on motorcycles and snowmobiles, and during high school, he played football and showed a growing interest in cars.
After high school, Dan helped his parents on the family farm and worked at TMI in Dickinson during the winters. He was married in 1981 to Faye Koffler, and they moved onto the farm when his parents moved to Dickinson. Dan’s pride and joy, daughter Deanna Lynn, was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1983. Dan and Faye were divorced in 1985, and Dan remained single the rest of his life.
In the early 80’s, Dan worked for his brother Gary at his body shop in New England, fitting convertible tops for a 1957 Chevy, a 1965 Mustang, and re-building his first car, a 1967 Camaro. He began farming with Gary in 1982 after their father retired, and they each began their own operations in 1986. In addition to farming, Dan worked for 10 years at TMI in Dickinson. He also worked with his brother Gary in Mandan in the late 1990’s building a SeaWind airplane and helping Gary build a Super Cub for Sam McQuade in Bismarck.
Dan restored an elegant 1960 Chevrolet Impala convertible (BowTie) from frame to finish, inside and out, polishing every nut and bolt. His work earned him a second place trophy in the 1960-69 Open Class at the Medora Car Show in 1982. He spent his later years in life creating beautiful landscaping on the farm and extensively and meticulously remodeling the house where he grew up. He lived comfortably there with the moose, the deer, the antelope, and the coyotes.
Surviving Dan are his daughter Deanna and her husband John Bren and Dan’s three grandchildren: Hunter Anderson, Cooper, and Emersyn. He is also survived by his brother Gary Stagl of Mandan, sisters Sheryl McIntyre (Phil) of Fargo, Donna Stagl-Ritter of Bismarck, Janis Germaine (Bart) of San Clemente, CA, and two nieces (Lisa and Allison), three nephews (Ian, Josh, and Nick), seven grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many cousins from both sides of the family (special mention to best cousin-friends Al Madler and Dion Stagl). He was preceded in death by his father Al in 2006 and his mother Eileen in 2019.
