Joseph L. Dawang was born May 31, 1943 in Dickinson, the son of Vidal and Helen (Dutchak) (Haag) Dawang. He was raised and educated in Dickinson. Throughout his life he had worked in construction, workover rigs, and had managed a laundry mat in Hot Springs, SD. Joe has made Dickinson his home most of his life, with the short times that he spent in Puyallup, WA, and Hot Springs.

Joe was united in marriage to Florence K. Candrian, on September 1, 1984 in Puyallup. He enjoyed embroidering dish towels, shirts and squares for quilts. He usually would make his own patterns for his work. These items he loved to give to family and friends. He played the drums in a band while living in Hot Springs. He loved playing cards, Yahtzee, and a little gambling. Spending time with his family was most important to him, and he cherished these moments. Joe could see something useful in almost anything, wood, plastic, etc., turning them into usable items.

Joe is survived by his wife, Florence; daughters, Amanda (Tim) Stevens, Andover, MN, Ronda (Gary) Whitmer, Bloomfield, MT, and Kim Harris, Missouri; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Floria Barnett, Marcy (Shannon) Dennis, and Mary Jane (Dennis) Pachl, all of Dickinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David; and numerous aunts and uncles.
