Visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. A Private Funeral Service will take place with inurnment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Richardton.
Shawn was born December 15, 1981 in Hill City, Kansas, the son of Russell and Angie (Gernand) Paulson. He was a graduate of Richardton-Taylor High School and went on to study psychology at Dickinson State University.
Shawn was immensely proud of his boys, Kaeden and Paxtyn. Anything they did, Shawn was all in, cheering from the sidelines and shouting their many accomplishments to the world. Being their father was the greatest joy in his life.
And shouting was something he was good at! Shawn was a very loud, funny, loving guy. He was a great storyteller, project starter (but not completer), a fantastic cook, and an even better housekeeper. There was clean, and then there was “Shawn Clean”. He enjoyed his time in the community with chili cookoffs, charity dinners, and donating his time to support other activities and organizations his boys were part of.
Shawn was fortunate to have experienced love twice in his life. Jen Hoerner blessed him with his two sons, and Samantha Engle shared the final years of his life.
He is survived by his sons, Kaeden and Paxtyn of Dickinson; his mother, Angie Paulson of Richardton; his siblings, Phillip (Lalisa) Paulson of Hettinger, Samantha (Tim) Yanish of Bismarck, and Aaron (Amanda) Paulson of Dickinson; and four nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Paulson, both maternal and paternal grandparents, his Godfather and uncle, Bill Tryon, and many other aunts and uncles.
