Aggie was born September 16, 1937 to Adam and Elizabeth (Weigel) Brendel in her grandma’s house in Logan County, ND. The family moved to Bismarck when Aggie was 15 and she graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in 1957. Aggie married Earl McCarty on September 16, 1957 in Bismarck. They danced all day and all night; they loved to polka! In 1959, they moved to Medina where they farmed and ranched for nearly 50 years.
Aggie and Earl proudly raised and showed paint horses throughout the state. Aggie rode in the New West Heritage Riders Mounted Drill Team for many years. In addition to being a hands-on farmwife, Aggie also worked at the Hangin Tree Western Store and Depot Restaurant in Jamestown as well as Farmer’s Livestock in Bismarck. After retiring from farming, Aggie and Earl ran a painting business, painting inside and out for many years, making many good friends along the way.
Aggie is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Selinger and their sons, Jacob (Katie) and Jordan (Kayla), all of Dickinson; along with her son, Keith McCarty, Dickinson and his daughters, Nikkita (Josh) Pfeifle, Ashley (Jayce Huber) McCarty and Shelby McCarty, all of Spearfish, SD. Aggie also leaves 11 great-grandchildren who made her smile pretty big. She is also survived by two sisters, Lucy (Joel) Barker and Carol (Ken) Powe, both of Richland, WA; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Earl who passed away in 2015; her parents; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty (Richard) Berger and Jeanette (Tony) Fleck.
Aggie spent 2 1/2 years as a resident of St. Luke’s Nursing home. The family would like to thank the entire staff for their wonderful love and care throughout that time. We know it was a lively task to say the least. The family would like to direct memorials to the outdoor patio project at St. Luke’s, whose address is 242 10th St. West, Dickinson, ND 58601.
