Dennis Altenberg, 64, Dickinson, died on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Benedictine Living Community, Dickinson. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends for Dennis at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

I, Dennis Altenberg, was born in Pierre, SD on October 9, 1961, the son of Robert and Beverly (Novak) Altenberg. I grew up in Pierre during my early childhood years. I was a resident of the South Dakota State School in Redfield from the ages of 5 to 12. While there, I enjoyed roller skating, swimming, and soccer. In my teen years, I attended the Black Hills work shop in Rapid City, SD. I made wooden stakes and pallets in the workshop. I later moved from South Dakota to Wyoming. I worked a variety of jobs over the years to include being on a construction crew and a lawn crew. I also worked as a janitor and a dishwasher.

In 2002, I moved to Dickinson to be closer to family and extended family. I met lots of nice people and have become friends with many. I enjoyed meeting my friends at the Paragon for a drink or two. I want my family and extended family to know. “You are very important to me.”

I am survived by my mother, Bev Altenberg, Gillette, WY; sisters, Sharon (Paul) Clifford, Gillette, and Debbie (Lyle) Goeres, Taylor; brothers, James and Mike (Erika) Altenberg, Beach; several nieces and nephews. I am preceded in death by my father, Robert; and brother, Larry Altenberg.

I want to THANK Benedictine Living Community, Northland Pace, and Catholic Charities of North Dakota for the care and friendship they have provided over the years. A Special Thank You to Mike Hewitt for your time, kindness, and friendship.
