Susan L. Stephenson was born June 27, 1946 in Caracas, Venezuela, the daughter of Glenn and Lorraine (Pagel) Stephenson. Due to her father working construction, she lived in many places often, living twice in Venezuela and 17 moves around the country before landing in Nebraska when she was a 4th grader. The last move was to Reeder in the summer before her Senior year. Sue graduated from Reeder High School in 1964.
Sue was united in marriage to Gary Doe on June 5, 1964 in Reeder. They made their home on the farm south of Regent where they raised their four children, Angela, Jon, Paula, and Bryan. Sue worked with Gary on the farm and at the First State Bank of Regent. She also worked as a telemarketer in Regent and led census taking teams for western North Dakota.
She was so caring to everyone, was always there for her family, and never met a stranger. Both sets of grandparents were very special to Sue, visiting them often. Sue kept busy as a farm wife and mother but she tried her best to visit her parents in Oregon regularly.
She loved to help others by leading her local women’s church group at the Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School Classes, leader of the 4-H group in Hettinger County, and excelled at everything involved with recruiting and teaching the census takers in Western North Dakota.
She always wanted her girls to learn all the skills of a good farmwife. Sue loved to sew, work on the farm, raised a large garden and kept a spotless house.
Sue is survived by her husband, Gary Doe, Dickinson; children, Angela (Bob) Carlson, Regent, Jon (Kim) Doe, Mandan, Paula (Scott) Adams, Stephenville, TX, and Bryan (Jill) Doe, Regent; grandchildren, Justine (Dan) Lee, Jaelea (Jake) Schmidt, Jenny (Brady) Skytland, Jaidynn Doe, Zach (Cassie) Adams, Ally Adams, Ryan Doe, Alex Doe, Evan Doe, and Erin Doe; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Bob) Jensen, La Grande, OR; sister-in-law, Terry Stephenson, Long Island, NY; numerous nieces and nephews; and special great-niece, Ella.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Pauline and Glen Doe; and brother, Glenn Stephenson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
