Agnes Pekas, 96, formerly of Dickinson, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2009 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.
Agnes M. Gion was born on April 22, 1913, one of 12 children, in rural Regent. She grew up and attended school in the Regent area. Agnes married Charley Pekas on Oct. 23, 1934. They made their home for many years on the Hillview Stock Farm of rural Regent. After their retirement, they moved to Dickinson, ND. Mr. Pekas passed away on Jan. 1, 1987. Agnes later started spending her winters in Arizona, eventually moving to Arizona full time in 1995. Agnes moved to Fargo, after her time in Arizona, and moved into the Pioneer House and later into Riverview Place both of Fargo.
Agnes always lived her life to the fullest.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four children, Beverly, Dwayne, Loren and Josie.
She is survived by eight children, Charlene (Randy Loftin) Afremow, Sonoma, Calif., Dr. Jerry Pekas, Hastings, Neb., Darold Pekas, Reliance, Wyo., Myron (Erlyce) Pekas, Phoenix, Ariz., Dorene Tollefson, West Fargo, Donna (Tony) Jahner, Dickinson, ReNae (Bart) Ashland, Cooperstown, Cheri (Earl) Pekas, Eugene, Ore.; 42 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two brothers, George Gion, Chicago, IL, Paul (Eunice) Gion, Hettinger.
