Alan Bruce Lovell died Saturday, April 1, 2017, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson at the age of 70. Cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.
Alan was born April 28, 1946 in Santa Monica, Calif., the only child of R. Bruce and Ruby L. (Vaughn) Lovell. He graduated from Beach High School in 1964. Alan was united in marriage to Mary Stitt in 1966, and they had one son, Mark.
Alan went on to earn a Masters of Education at Montana State University, Bozeman in 1969. He then attended Washington State University, Pullman, Wash., to work on a PhD in American Studies. In 1972, he obtained a job as Curator of History for the Eastern Washington State Historical Society at the Cheney Cowles Memorial Museum in Spokane, Wash. He returned to the family farm south of Beach in 1974, where he farmed until retiring in 1998. Alan and Mary moved to Dickinson in 1992.
He enjoyed reading, hunting, trap shooting and was a lifetime member of The National Speleological Society.
Alan is survived by his wife, Mary, Dickinson; son, Mark (Cherie) Lovell and one granddaughter, Caylee Lovell, Monroe, Wash. He is preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Ruby Lovell.
