Albert E. Svihl, 93, Dickinson, died Friday, September 24, 2010 at his home. Albert’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m., on Friday, October 1, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the Mass. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Anton Wanner presiding.

Albert Edmond Svihl was born May 14, 1917 in Dickinson, the son of Frank and Agnes (Pirkl) Svihl. He was raised and educated in the Versippi area east of Dickinson.

Albert married Anna M. Binstock on November 12, 1941 in Dickinson. He was inducted into the United States Army on April 8, 1942 and served honorably until his discharge on June 1, 1945. He farmed until retirement in 1974, at which time he went to work for the Dickinson Cheese Company. Albert began working for the City of Dickinson, and in the Spring of 1984, the Parks & Recreation Department remaining there up to the time of his death.

Albert had belonged to the KC Club, and the St. Anthony Club in Dickinson. He enjoyed bowling, carpentry, and especially working outdoors.

Albert is survived by his four children, Albert D. (Kathy) Svihl, Jr., Welch, Minn., Darrell S. (Claudia) Svihl, Anchorage, Alaska, Kayla A. (Terry) Lang, Mesa, Ariz., and Tamara M. Svihl, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Dori Hought, Jackie (Jason) Weisbesick, Tracey (Darren) Stastny, Tara Nicholson, Taunya Parsons, Josh (Renee) Svihl, Derrick (Amber) Lang, Sherman Hasselstrom, Jared Lang, and Cami Svihl; two step-grandchildren, Thomas and William (Leah Krank) Fisher; 12 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; and four siblings, Blanch (Dick) Payne, Dickinson, Rolland (Yvonne) Svihl, New Hradec, Ben (Betty) Svihl, Dickinson, and Gordon (Shirley) Svihl, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna on July 23, 2005; his parents; sisters, Emma (Louis) Kadrmas, Lillian Svihl, Mildred (Andrew) Binstock, Betty (C.F.) Hatzenbuhler and Dorothy Svihl; and brothers, Henry, Charles and George Svihl.
