Albert J. Berdahl, 93, Fairfield, a gentle and quiet man, died Sunday, January 13, 2019 at CHI St. Alexius Dickinson. Albert’s Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2019 at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Leonard Kordonowy presiding. Interment will follow at the Schafer Cemetery, Watford City. Military Honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday.
Albert “Babe” J. Berdahl was born July 30, 1925 to I.J. and Bertha (Dahl) Berdahl in Estevan, Canada. The family moved to Ingomar, Mont. and later Forsyth, Mont., where he joined the United States Navy on December 15, 1943 and served honorably until December 23, 1945.
Albert married Anna Kraus in 1943 and they had three children, Gloria, Linda and Alfred. Following the death of his wife Anna in 1968, he was united in marriage to Mildred (Dutchuk) Romanyshyn on July 26, 1969 and Mildred preceded him in death on August 20, 2018.
He worked for over 30 years in the oilfield while also farming east of Fairfield. When the kids were younger, he enjoyed taking them fishing and camping.
Albert is survived by his two daughters, Gloria (Bill) Singleton, St. Petersburg, Fla. and Linda (Don) Olson, Minot; daughter-in-law, Carlotta Berdahl, Watford City; step-daughter, Rita Romanyshyn who lovingly cared for him til his passing; two step-sons, Rainald Romanyshyn, Fairfield and Thomas Romanyshyn, Phelen, Calif; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his nephews, Rocky and Roger Berdahl, niece, Teresa Fink, all of Forsyth, Mont.; and nephew Todd Biery, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his by his wives, Anna and Mildred; son, Alfred, in July 2018; his siblings, Benny O. (Katherine), Helen (Jim) Mouat, Alfred (died in WWII), Dorothy (K.C.) Cummings, and Myrtle (Ray) Camper.
