Alden “Aldie” Henry Auran, 96, Dickinson, formerly of Westhope, died Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Alden’s Committal Service with Military Honors will be 11 a.m. MT, Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military Honors will be provided by the Mandan American Legion Honor Guard. 

Alden was born in Westhope on September 5, 1927, the son of Ben and Alvilda (Ruud) Auran. He grew up on the family farm in Westhope, attending Brander Township Country School through the eighth grade and graduating high school from Maxbass Public School. He served his country honorably for three years with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

On September 5, 1949, Alden married Ruth Brown in Maxbass. They raised their four girls, Terry, Patricia, Wanda, and Melodie, on his family farm. While Ruth worked as a postal clerk, Alden delivered mail and worked as a locksmith in addition to farming the land. He was a member of the Elks Club, the American Legion, and Gun Club. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, operating remote airplanes, welding, and reading. In 2005, Alden and Ruth moved to Dickinson.

Alden was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 2011; by his parents, Ben and Alvilda; and his son-in-law, Richard Martin.

He is survived by his daughters, Terry Martin, Park Rapids, MN, Patricia (Dale) Meuchel, Dickinson, Wanda Auran, Dickinson, and Melodie (Shawn) Kitzman, Upham; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gerald (Mary) Auran, Alexandria, MN.
