Alice Pierce, Age 84, Dickinson, died Friday, June 2, 2017 at St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Alice’s Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Pierce Congregational Church, north of Scranton with Rev. Mary Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow at the Pierce Congregational Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Alice (Hinkleman) Pierce was born October 9, 1932 to Robert Hinkleman and Hazel Russell in Edmonds, Wash. Alice moved to Dickinson when she was a sophomore in high school and attended Dickinson Central, and attended Dickinson State Teachers College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Social Studies in 1953.

Alice married Floyd Pierce on June 1, 1953 at the First Congregational Church, Dickinson. Alice moved to the farm/ranch to support Floyd’s desire to continue the farming tradition that his father started. During a short period away from the farm; Alice served as Librarian in Ventura, Calif. from 1963 to 1967. She also enjoyed substitute teaching in Bowman, Rhame and Scranton; where she had an opportunity to engage and interact with so many wonderful students and cherished those relationships greatly, long after she retired.

Alice was very active in the community, church and had a special bond with Dickinson State University. She was a member of Woodbury Homemakers, Scranton School Board, Pierce Church Women’s Fellowship, Pierce Church Paper, served on the counsel with the United Church of Christ and was also Moderator. Alice and Floyd were influential leaders and spent many years volunteering at Pilgrim Park, a UCC Church Camp on Lake Metigoshe.

Alice loved her Alma Mater. She was a part of Delta Kappa Gamma – DSU Sorority (teachers and retired teachers and she served on the DSU Alumni Board. She was the recipient of the Blue Hawk Loyalty Award and in October 2016 was presented with the DSU Golden Hawk Award; the highest recognition to alumni for professional achievement, significant contribution to the community and loyalty to Dickinson State University and its students that included a number of scholarships.

Alice enjoyed working on her family ancestry project, attending DSU football, baseball and softball games, and reading/writing.

Alice is survived by her three sons, Melvin (Charlene), Scranton, Alan, Bismarck, and David (Denise), Berthoud, Colo.; six grandchildren, Robert (Robyn) Pierce, Daniel (Janice) Pierce, Johana (Jeff) Potter, Vincent Williams, Rachael Pierce and Paige Pierce, and eight great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd on March 19, 2004; parents, Robert and Hazel and one step-sister Dar.
