Alice was born to Paul and Luella (Hollar) Haugen and raised in Amidon and New England. She attended Rapid City Business College. Upon graduation she moved to Dickinson, where she remained until her death.
Alice married Marvin Schmidt, three children were born of this union, Mark, Doug and Missy. This marriage dissolved. While bowling one evening she met DeLane Woehl, who was a widower with five children, Renee, Vicki, Jerry, Bobbi and Rick. And the rest is history. DeLane and Alice were wed on July 24, 1971, two more children were born from this union, Brian and Kristin.
Alice worked at TSC, Woolworth’s, Kelly Services, Dickinson Cheese and UPS.
Alice was an avid gardener and loved to harvest her goodies, she made the BEST jelly! She bowled for many many years, going to Nationals most of these years. It was an anomaly if you didn’t see her name on the board for Bowler of the Week at Classic Lanes. She would Sub for anyone who asked, she bowled 3 or 4 times some weeks. She was also quite the angler! Fish in any weather and with anyone who wanted to go! If there was a casino in view, she would detour to take a shot at her luck. As if there were any time left in her day, she always filled that with “Days of Our Lives”. You could ask her any day what was happening on her favorite show and she could help get you up to date!
