Allan W. Paulson, 81, Dickinson, ND, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at his home. Allan’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Steven Tangen officiating. Interment will follow at Taylor Lutheran Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Drill Team. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Allan was born July 10, 1926 in Fargo, North Dakota. At six months old he was adopted by Ingvald C. and Hilda G. (Nelson) Paulson of Taylor, ND. He was raised and educated in the Taylor area, graduating from Taylor High School in 1944.

Allan joined the United States Army on April 14, 1945 and serving with the 1st Air Rep and Supply Detachment in Okinawa until his honorable discharge on November 29, 1946. Allan returned to Taylor and on November 4, 1951 in Bloomfield, Indiana married Jane Paulson, the adopted daughter of Earl and Wilma Paulson. They returned to Taylor where they lived on his father’s homestead until May of 1954.

Allan and Jane moved to Gillette, WY where he went to work on a core rig and later moving to Lusk, WY. They remained there until November of 1954 when Allan joined the North Dakota Highway Patrol, first stationed out of Bowman, ND, and five years later in May 1959 was transferred to Dickinson. The five years spent in Bowman were very enjoyable, the community was made up of very friendly and kind people. Allan remained with the patrol until 1966. He then for the next 14 years went to work as a car salesmen at Parkway Ford, Thomas Motors and Queen City Motors. In 1980, Allan went to work for Flint Engineering and later Chevron Oil in the Little Knife Field near Killdeer, eventually retiring in the fall of 1990. His retirement was enjoyed with his family in Dickinson.

Allan belonged to the Elks, St. John Evan Lutheran Church, the Taylor VFW, the American Legion, the Masons, and the Sons of Norway. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and an occasional trip to Prairie Knights.

Allan is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jane; their four children, Janette (Tim) Stockert, Duval, WA, Kathy (David) Kleppe, Bismarck, Rita Kuntz, Dickinson, and Andrew Paulson, Dickinson; nine grandchildren, Tiffany (Jeremy) Loechelt, Justin Stockert, Joshua Stockert, Kelli Kleppe, Riley Kuntz, Lindsey Kuntz, Emily Kuntz, Jay Kuntz and Jamie Kuntz; two great-grandsons, Wesley and Carter Loechelt; one brother, Ingvald (Clara) Paulson, Taylor; and one sister, Laurel (Hugh) Perkins, Remer, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister; an infant daughter; his mother and father-in-law; and his son-in-law, Rodney Kuntz.
