Alvin D. Stockert, 64, Dickinson, died on Monday, July 21, 2025 with his wife and children by his side at Sanford on Broadway, Fargo. Alvin’s Liturgy of Word will be at 10 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2025 at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a Vigil at 6 p.m.
Alvin D. Stockert was born on March 31, 1961 in Dickinson, the son of Valentine and Evangeline (Frank) Stockert. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, having graduated from Dickinson High School in 1980. Following high school, he went to work in the oil field for a short time.
Alvin then began working with his dad at Val’s Sanitation. Eventually he and Tammy officially took over the business in 1995, keeping the same name it has to this day.
Alvin was united in marriage to Tammy Bezdicek on September 20, 1986 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson and to this union two children were born, Samantha and Austin.
First and foremost, Alvin was a family man. He worked hard every day of his life to ensure his wife and kids were taken care of. He was always so proud of his kids and grandkids.
When Samantha was little, Alvin would bring her along in his work truck to jobs, girly dresses and lunchbox included. And who was the first person to visit Sam in the hospital when she had her first baby? Yes, Alvin would not miss that for the world.
Alvin and Austin always enjoyed the same type of music. Going to live concerts became one of their favorite activities to enjoy together, and they certainly made the most of it. He and Austin were known to make other road trips together as well, whether it be a run to Bismarck for business or a trip to Denver to cheer on the Broncos.
When his two grandkids, Sophia and Nolan, came along, Alvin was the proudest grandpa you could find. He had different activities they each enjoyed doing with Grandpa. During longer times in between visits, he would call and ask, “When are Sophia and Nolan coming over?”
Alvin was an outstanding cook and filled many bellies over the years. He is particularly famous for his tender, juicy roast, and perfect steaks on the grill.
Helping people was one of Alvin’s favorite things to do. Whether it was clearing snow, helping with a project, lending some tools, or giving advice (maybe even unsolicited advice), Alvin was always willing to lend a hand. His friends and family can attest to this.
And of course, none of this would be possible without the love of his life, Tammy. Together, the two of them have created an amazing family, led a very successful business, and made the most of everything they had. When you think of one, it’s impossible not to think of the other.
Alvin was a strong man and fought as hard as he could. In the end, cancer had done its work, and his body had nothing left to continue. Alvin left us all too soon and he will be incredibly missed.
Alvin is survived by his wife Tammy; children, Samantha (Mitch) Meier and Austin Stockert; grandchildren, Sophia and Nolan Meier; siblings, Lillian (Doug) Homstad, Lyle (Diane) Stockert, Vivian (Dan) Caylor, Virginia Sticka, and Julie (Don) Gerber; sisters-in-law, Deb Stockert and Linda Stockert; in-laws, Robert and Irene Galster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Valery Stockert, Larry Stockert, and Gary Stockert; brother-in-law, David Sticka; niece, Jennifer (Homstad) Barrera.
