Alvin A. Wanner, 82, Gladstone, passed away at St. Gabriel’s in Bismarck on Friday, September 27, 2024 after having a stroke the week before.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 1st from 5 pm. to 7 pm. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 7 pm. with Deacon Ross Reiter presiding. Alvin’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am., Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Justin Waltz as celebrant. Internment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass.

Alvin was born June 25, 1942, to John J. and Katherine (Herold) Wanner. He grew up on the family dairy farm. His school years were spent at St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Alvin graduated from Model High School at Dickinson State Teacher’s College and was in the last graduating class of the school.

Alvin married Bernice Barta on October 12, 1968. They made their home on a farm ten miles east of Dickinson and to this union one daughter, Kimberly, was born. He spent his time farming, raising assorted crops such as wheat, oats, corn, and hay. Alvin and Bernice also raised cattle and hogs.
 
Times were tough so Alvin started working for Dave Michaels where he learned to drive an 18-wheeler and became an over-the-road truck driver. Later, Alvin hauled asphalt for heavy construction in the summer months. In the fall of 2001, he started working for Black Hills Trucking. Alvin retired from Black Hills Trucking on November 7, 2016.

Alvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bernice; daughter, Kimberly (Mark Goldman), Philadelphia; grandson, Luka; sister, Kathy (Ted) Goelzer, Dickinson, Marilyn (Peter) Van Eck, Troy, Idaho; brother, David (Nancy) Wanner, Dickinson; John (Peggy) Wanner, Dickinson; brother-in-law, Darrell Kendall, Cleburne, Texas; aunts, Angie Nuss, Dickinson and Evelyn Herold, Dickinson; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Ludwig and Martha Barta; sister, Jenny Kendall; brother-in-law, Micky Streeper; and two nephews, Mark and Mike Streeper; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and some cousins. He was a friend to many and will be missed.
