Anna Maria Fritz was born on November 30, 1931 in Lefor, the daughter of Steve and Mary (Grundhauser) Fritz. The family farmed in the Lefor area, where Ann attended St. Elizabeth’s Catholic School through eighth grade. The Fritz family then moved to Dickinson, and Ann attended and graduated from Dickinson High School.
Ann married Robert “Bob” Schneider on October 24, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Bob and Ann moved to Belfield, where they raised six children. She was very active in St. Bernard’s Church, and worked for the Belfield School District for over 20 years. After retirement Ann and Bob moved to Dickinson in 1998 where she resided until her passing.
Ann loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much, and was very involved in their lives. She also loved playing cards with friends and family, gardening, bird-watching, crossword puzzles (she completed one daily throughout her adult life), jigsaw puzzles, and making fleece blankets for every member of the family.
Until a week before she died, Ann took good care of herself, home and family. She loved to bake and cook large meals for her family at the holidays, and specialized in the lost art of making Paprikash. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone that knew her.
Ann is survived by five of her children, Connie (Rick Presnell) Stern, Boise, Idaho, Bob C. (Renee) Schneider, Nancy (Joel Bleth) Samson, Michael Schneider, and Mari Kim (Toby) Zastoupil, all of Dickinson; seven grandchildren, Darren (Daniela) Tessier, Jessi (Kevin) Anderson, Nathan Samson, Lexi, Emily and Katie Zastoupil, and Britney Schneider; and six great-grandchildren, Dreyden Huncovsky, Henry Tessier, and Jade, Jalynn, Marlee and Kayler Anderson. Ann is also survived by two sisters Betty Deardorff, Colville, Wash., and Marie (Dave) Schuhrke, Henderson, Nev.; and two brothers Joe (JoAnn) Fritz, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Wilfred (Georgia) Fritz, Prior Lake, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, of 58 years on February 1, 2009; one daughter, Jackie Lynn; four brothers, Steve, Nick, Tony, and Carl Fritz; and two sisters, Eva Davin, and Helen Kuhn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society in Ann’s Memory.
