Anna T. Walter, 83, Dickinson, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, following a short illness. Anna’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Emtombment will follow at the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation is on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Fr. Kregg Hochhalter presiding. Visitation wil continue on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Anna Theresa Walter was born August 14, 1931, on the family farm at Lefor, the daughter of George B. and Theresa (Pechtl) Anton. Anna attended St. Elizabeth’s Catholic School. She liked school especially reading, math, and music classes.
Anna married the love of her life, Simon F. Walter on January 25, 1955, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Lefor. Before and after their marriage Anna was an employee of the F. W. Woolworth Company for fifteen years. She was a people person who enjoyed visiting with customers. Anna finished her career in retail at The Fad men’s clothing store in Dickinson. She worked in the boys’ department. She was often remembered as ‘the lady from The Fad’. She especially appreciated working with the Boy Scout leaders as she felt the program is a valuable organization.
Anna enjoyed sewing matching dresses for her daughters when the girls were younger. She loved her time with Simon when he became a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member and attending formal events and conventions. She was a member of NARFE. Anna was an avid Daniel O’Donnell fan and attended three of his concerts. She liked spending time with her daughter’s pets Buster, Pepper, Mya, and Taz. The most important role she loved playing was of grandmother to as she said ‘the most precious gift of God’ her grandson Joel. She enjoyed every aspect of his life from baby-sitting him to having him live with her for three months after his house sold in Dickinson. People often said they could sense her pride in Joel.
Anna is survived by and will be greatly missed by her daughters, Sharon (Harlan) Klein, Elgin, Marlys and Corinne Walter, Dickinson; one grandson, Joel Klein, Elgin; her sisters, Marlene (Herb) Rice, Dickinson, Caroline (Ankar) Hanson, Eugene, Ore.; sister-in-law June Anton, Citrus Heights, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Simon on April 16, 2004, parents, brother, George, and sister, Marie Jung.
