Anne Gion born February 16, 1908 in rural Hettinger County, the oldest of nine children of Michael and Margaret (Kilzer) Gion. She was raised on her parent’s farm northeast of Regent, the farm had been homesteaded by her father around 1890. Because her mother needed her help with the younger siblings, she stayed at home after completing the eighth grade. She was the second oldest of many cousins living in a five mile area, so she gained plenty of experience dealing with children and keeping house.

In 1933 she met Joseph Link, and they were united in marriage on September 18th, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, northeast of Regent. They began a new farmstead on a quarter section of land, a gift from Joe’s parents, in a new house, a gift from Anne’s parents. The farm was located in the St. Stephen’s area 17 miles south of Richardton. After they sold the farm to their son Wayne, they continued to live there until 1980, when they moved to Richardton. Joe passed away in June 1991. Anne continued to live in Richardton until 1997, when she moved to Marilac Manor in Bismarck. In 2002, she moved to St. Benedict’s Health Center.

Anne belonged to the Prairie Rose Homemakers, St. Stephen’s and St. Mary’s Christian Mothers, and the Catholic Daughters in Richardton. She will be remembered as an excellent cook and made the best pies, strudel, fried chicken and bread. She made beautiful quilts, afghans and other handiworks.

Anne is survived by six children, Wayne (Vangie) Link, Bismarck, Raymond (Emilie) Link, Bismarck, Sr. Jan Link, Los Angeles, Calif., Carol (Lee) Mayer, Fargo, Joanne (Tom) King, Lawrence, Kan., and Marilyn Link, Westland, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alphonse (Rosemary) Gion, Madison, Wis.; and two sisters, Ethel Gion, Madison, Wis., and Hermine (Lee) Martin, Denver, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and one grandson.
