Anthony “Tony” L. Schafer,88, Dickinson, formerly of Flasher, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Richardton Health Center. Tony’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m. CT, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Bismarck Funeral Home, Bismarck with Rev. Allen Wagner, presiding. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military honors provided by the Bismarck VFW. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Anthony L. Schafer was born September 1, 1928 to Louis and Matilda (Hopfauf) Schafer in Flasher. He was raised on the family farm near Flasher along with six sisters and three brothers.
He joined the Air Force in January 1951 and was very proud of his military service. Upon his discharge, he married Irene Johnson. They had two sons and a daughter. Tony had several business ventures which usually involved the sales or promotion of the newest thing. Tony was also a salesman for Melroe and Steiger tractor companies during the 60’s and 70’s, their beginning years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, golf and a good game of cards.
Tony is survived by sons, Steve Schafer, Las Vegas, Nev., Greg (Lorna) Schafer, Dickinson; daughter, Nicole Schafer, San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Storelli, Maggie Fleck, Helen (Ed) Helbling and brothers, Tom (Angie) Schafer and Frank (Marlene) Schafer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Julia Beckler, Ann Scholl, Bertha Paul and brother, Ed Schafer.
