Anton F. “Tony” Salonick, 94, Dickinson, ND, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Tony’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2008 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Veterans Drill Team. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.
Anton F. Salonick was born November 24, 1913 in rural Stark County of North Dakota, the son of Panteley and Anna (Kostelecky) Salonick. He was raised and educated in Stark County.
Tony honorably served his country in the United States Army from July 23, 1942 to November 25, 1945. During his military service he was with the costal artillery in France and Europe. Following his discharge he returned to Dickinson where he worked in a service station, Farmers Union Oil for six years and also in construction. While in construction when he was younger he was on a crew that helped build the Hoover Dam. Tony then went to work as a delivery and pick-up man for Mid-West Motors retiring in the mid 1970’s.
Tony belonged to the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and the Teamsters Local Union #123. He enjoyed traveling, and hunting and fishing.
Tony is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Dennis Ulmer who for the past 30 plus years has been a faithful caregiver and companion to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and one nephew.
