Anton Theodore Schwindt was born November 7, 1931 to Leonard and Eva Schwindt in Stark County. He enlisted in the United States Army on March 19, 1952, served in the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged on April 20, 1960.
Tony was united in marriage to Lucille B. Gatzke on November 8, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, South Heart. They made their home in Dickinson where they raised their six children.
Tony had a strong work ethic. He worked as a brakeman for the Burlington Northern for nearly 40 years. His passion for sports was unmeasurable. Tony’s Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtic’s paint images were displayed throughout his home.
His stories of friends through his years echo in our memories. Tony was easy to get to know and had a genuine heart to get to know you. He never had a problem asking questions and enjoyed talking with his family and especially with his grandchildren.
If Tony had a weakness, it was sweets. When he was asked where the candy went, he would say “What candy.”
He was also member of the Eagles Club and the St. Anthony Club.
Tony is survived by his six children, Cheryl “Cher” Schwindt, Aberdeen, SD, Gary Schwindt, Detroit Lakes, MN, Karen (Roger) Knaup, Dundee, FL, Charlene (Wayne) Welu, Fargo, Leonard W. (Jill Fridrich) Schwindt, and Kenneth Schwindt, Detroit Lakes; eight grandchildren, Dustin Schwindt, Tim Schwindt, Katrina Valder, Gunnar Welu, Kenny Schwindt Jr., William Schwindt, Madison Schwindt, and Benjamin (Kaina) Schwindt; six great-grandchildren, Lucy, Gabe, Ava, Jax, Monroe, and Matteo; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Emily and Katy and families.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy B. Schwindt on May 17, 2015; parents; two brothers, Joseph, and Alfred.
