Arlene Pauline Emma (Treiber) Magstadt, was born on July 15, 1932 in Hebron, North Dakota to Henry and Emma (Alpert) Treiber. She attended country school and then graduated from Hebron High School in 1950.

Two short months after turning 18, Arlene married Richard Magstadt on September 24, 1950 at St. John’s Church in Hebron. The couple made their home on a farmstead north of Burt. Arlene and Richard’s union was blessed with four children; Victoria, Sherry, Lee and Melissa.

Arlene took great pride and pleasure in all things involved with being a farm wife and mother. Their home was often a gathering spot where family and friends knew they would be guaranteed a great meal as well as an evening of playing cards and entertainment. She was an excellent baker, cook, seamstress and homemaker and made sure family favorites were always provided in abundance at family gatherings.

Always one willing to serve and no stranger to hard work, Arlene was a member of the St. John’s Church choir and a Sunday school teacher as well as a country school teacher. She was also a member of the North Star Homemakers Club for 35 years and attended Bible studies later in life while she resided at Park Avenue Villa and St. Luke’s Home.

Arlene worked at the Mott Good Samaritan Nursing Center for over 7 years before she and Richard decided to relocate to Dickinson in 1989. Upon relocation, she accepted the position as Residence Hall Director for Dickinson State University at DeLong Hall for one year, and then at Woods Hall for 4 years. Many special friendships were made with students and staff during her time at DSU. She also worked at Burger King for 16 years and enjoyed visiting with the many patrons who would come by.

Other than the Lord Jesus Christ, there was no greater love in Arlene’s life than her family. She and Richard’s marriage of over 70 years was a testimony to many of their love and devotion to each other. Arlene never forgot a name or a face, and had the gift of making every individual she came in contact with feel important, seen and valued. She had a lovely smile which radiated genuine kindness, charming wit and the most beautiful soul. The many memories of sweet Arlene will be forever loved and cherished.
