Arlo A. Safratowich, 60, Belfield, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson of natural causes. Arlo’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 25, 2013 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Fr. William Ruelle as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, north of Belfield. Military honors will be provided by the Belfield American Legion William C. Blair Post 144. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & a time of sharing at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Arlo Arthur Safratowich was born July 29, 1952 in Dickinson, the son of Arthur and Kathleen (Richard) Safratowich. He received his education at the Trulson Country School, Sts. Peter & Paul boarding school in New Hradec, and St. Mary’s High School, New England, graduating in 1971.
He joined the United States Navy on June 24, 1971 and served honorably until his discharge on July 25, 1973. Following his discharge he returned home to farm north of Belfield and also work in the oil patch. Arlo did spend a period of time in Montana working on a ranch. Returning to Belfield he went back into the oil fields and most recently was working for Wyoming Casing until his health began to fail.
Arlo was a member of the Belfield American Legion. He enjoyed jamming on the piano and guitar, fishing, working on old cars, and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Arlo is survived by his mother, Kathleen Safratowich, Belfield; five sisters, Louisette (Pat) Zeller, Dickinson, Abra Safratowich, Dickinson, Lori (Scott) Zimmerman, Oviedo, Fla., Arnette (Jay) Arth, Wahpeton, and Lana Safratowich, Belfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Art; and his grandparents.
