Arlone Nordby, 98, Dickinson, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Abiding by Arlone’s wishes, there will be a private family burial at the Scranton Cemetery, Scranton. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2013 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Brian Davidson officiating.
Arlone Husnik was born June 8, 1915 the daughter of Edward and Olena (Nyhus) Husnik, on the family farm near Scranton. She attended grade school at Stillwater Rural Consolidated School, and graduated from Scranton High School in 1931. She then attended two years at Dickinson State Teachers College.
Arlone taught school for 11 years, mostly rural schools in the Scranton and Rhame areas, two years though were at the Scranton Public School.
Arlone married Clifford Nordby on December 28, 1941, to whom three children were born, a stillborn son, and two daughters, Linda and Arlette. The Nordbys moved to Dickinson in 1974, after retiring from farming.
Clifford and she enjoyed many bus trips, as well as a trip to Israel and an Alaskan cruise. They were charter members and very active in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She did volunteer work at various places; the college, the library, schools, hospital, nursing homes, and the conservation services.
Arlone is survived by her daughters, Linda (Darrell) Winter, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Arlette (Charles) Moen, Reynolds; six grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Winter, Krista (Matt) Larson, Karla (Joe) Cummings, Elizabeth Winter, Jamie (Kristy) Moen, and Nathan (Steffany) Moen; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford in 1987; her parents; two brothers; and an infant son.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to a charity of your choice.
