Arnold Schmidt, 80, Belfield, died Monday, March 31, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Arnold’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant, and Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as con-celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Kris Ringwall presiding.

Arnold E. Schmidt was born May 16, 1933 on the family farm in Billings County, North Dakota, the son of Joseph and Marian (Faller) Schmidt. He was raised and educated in Billings County.

Arnold married Josephine Kubischta on October 1, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. They remained on the Schmidt family farm, where he farmed and ranched until retiring at the age of 75. Due to failing health, he became a resident of St. Benedict’s Health Center, on January 2012.

He loved farming and ranching, and enjoyed going to farm auction sales and visiting with neighbors and friends.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Josephine; two sons, Allan Schmidt, Steel, and Stacy (Jade James) Schmidt, Sidney, Mont.; one grandson, Kyle Schmidt; five siblings, Florence Obrigewitsch, Belfield, Richard (Dorathy) Schmidt, Dickinson, Delores Baseflug, Lakewood, Colo., Evelyn (Ed) Kinzel, Billings, Mont., and Margaret (Don) Schumacher, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.
