Arthur J. Ridl, 78, Dickinson, died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Arthur’s Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 10 a.m., at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.

Arthur J. Ridl was born October 21, 1932, on the family farm in Stark County near Dickinson, the son of Joe V. and Lillian (Svoboda) Ridl. He was raised on the family farm and received his grade school education in New Hradec, and high school at Dickinson High School.

Arthur married Dorothy Zastoupil on May 10, 1954, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. They farmed with his parents and eventually took over the farming and dairy operation. They went to small grain and beef cattle in 1979 and operated the Ridl Farms until his semiretirement.

Arthur was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, the Milk Stabilization Board and Queen of Peace Parish Council. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, working in the yard, an occasional trip to the casino, and truly loved farming. Art was a loving man with a special place in his heart for the grandchildren. He enjoyed holding them and waited for them to come and visit. He loved playing cards and games. Art had a wonderful sense of humor, and liked a good joke.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Dorothy; their six children, Arthur S. (Cindi) Ridl, Dickinson, Doreen (Dale) Henderson, Scranton, Kurt Ridl, Dickinson, Germaine (Bob) Curn, Dickinson, Josann (Joel) Lupo, Dickinson, and Keith (Susette) Ridl, Dickinson; 17 grandchildren, Kent Ridl, Joe (Kristin) Ridl, Cassi Ridl, Rusty Ridl, Andrea Ruff, Amanda Henderson, Andrea (Jeran) Honeyman, Erika Ridl, Shay Ridl, Chad Curn, Travis Curn, McCoy Lupo, Allaina Lupo, Lucas Lupo, Nicholas Lupo, Kaitlin Ridl and Dylan Ridl; ; five great-grandchildren, Rayne, J.J., Reeve, Quaid, and Abbagail; two sisters, Irene (Harley) Wilson, Longmont, Colo., and Blanche Mack, Dickinson; one sister-in-law, Alice Ridl, Great Falls, Mont. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Laudie; sister and brother-in-law, Angie (Bob) Kadrmas; and brother-in-law, Donald Mack.
