Arthur Stanger, 98, formerly of Taylor, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Arthur’s funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Taylor Lutheran Church, Taylor with Reverend Bob Wittstruck officiating, interment will follow at Pioneer Cemetery, Taylor. Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with family present to greet visitors from 5 p.m until 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church.

Arthur was born July 27, 1913 to John and Nettie (Swenning) Stanger. He attended rural schools in the Taylor area and in Dickinson. Arthur was confirmed in the Taylor Lutheran Church. During the 1930’s, Arthur was employed on the Stonehammer Ranch. In the late 1930’s he entered Dunewoody Institute in Minneapolis for a two year electrical course. Following that, Arthur worked for Westinghouse until joining the U.S. Navy in August 1942. Arthur attended naval training at Great Lakes, Ill. He served in the 05 Convoy Escort Repair Unit out of Bahia, Brazil, beginning March 10, 1945 as a Chief Electrician’s Mate. Following his honorable discharge in December 1945, Arthur returned to Taylor and began to ranch and farm with his family south of town.

Arthur was a member of the Elk’s Lodge 1137 and V.F.W. Post 7438. In his spare time, Arthur enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He also traveled extensively and loved the adventures of new places. Arthur was also a pilot and enjoyed flying with friends and family.

Arthur is survived by one great-nephew, Craig (Jen) Dethmer, one great-niece, Jody (Kris) Mahoney and two great great-nephews, Taylor and Connor Mahoney all of Lakewood, Colo., and numerous cousins and many friends.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Nora Zwick and Rosie Wieglenda, one niece, Joanne Dethmers and one nephew, Martin Wieglenda Arthur will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Taylor Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
