Avis Rutherford, 97, Dickinson, ND died on Sunday July 9, 2023 at her home. Funeral services for Avis will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Pastor Beth Parks officiating. Interment will take place at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the Regent Cemetery, Regent, ND. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Avis Trunkhill was born on May 14, 1926 in Regent, the daughter of George and Florence (Reed) Trunkhill. She joined sister, Betty and brother Raymond “Bud”. She attended Regent Public School. Avis helped her father with his dray line. They delivered from the depot to various businesses and trucked for anyone that needed the service.

Carroll “Kelly” Rutherford and Avis were married September 23, 1944 in Dickinson. They had three children, Jay, Roy and Carol. Avis enjoyed helping with farming and did substitute bus driving for Regent Public School. Kelly passed away in May 1977, and she then made her home in Regent in 1984. During that time, she enjoyed traveling, and in 2008 she moved to Edgewood Hawks Point in Dickinson, ND.

She was a member of the Sodbusters Saddle Club, Regent Homemakers, Women’s Fellowship, Regent Senior Citizens, Southwest Transportation, and Lifeline. She also volunteered with Elder Care, Dickinson Museum and the Enchanted Highway Gift Shop. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bowling, serving as Hawks Point Resident Council President, keeping in touch with friends on the computer, and occasional outings to Prairie Knights.

Avis is survived by her daughter, Carol (Joe) Herberholz, New England, ND ; grandchildren, Jace Rutherford, Post Falls, ID, Shelly Cox, Colorado Springs, CO, Haley Herberholz, Winchester, VA, and Kelly Herberholz, New England, ND; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly; her parents; sons, Jay and Roy; sister, Betty Loe (Dale) Stewart; brother, Raymond “Bud” (Ellie) Trunkhill; mother and father-in-law, William and Olive “Pet” Rutherford; in-laws, Jeanette (Bob) Wiseman, Bonnie (Jim) Kearns, and Hazel (Robert) Larson.
