Barbara E. Metz September 27, 1949 - May 4, 2020

Barbara E. Metz, 90, South Heart, died Monday, May 4, 2020 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, South Heart with Fr. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Barbara was born on December 28, 1929, to John and Katherine Heiser in Manning. She was raised and educated in the Grassy Butte area.

Barbara married John Metz on September 27, 1949 at St. Peter Conaisious Catholic Church in Grassy Butte. Together they raised five children in South Heart.

Barbara was employed by MDU for many years, reading natural gas meters in South Heart.

Barbara had many talents; organist and choir director at St. Peter Conaisious Church, musician, embroidery, painting, art, seamstress, gardening, and caring for her flower beds. She loved working outside and doing word search puzzles. Barbara was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary daily. She collected rosaries and had many from family and friends that traveled the world.

Barbara enjoyed being a homemaker, her favorite room was her kitchen, where she cooked delicious meals and mouth watering desserts. No one ever left Barb’s kitchen hungry.

Barbara was a prankster and enjoyed pulling pranks on her husband and children. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
Barbara was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Ladies Guild of South Heart.

In March 2015, Barbara became a resident of St. Benedict’s Health Center. She loved the many visitors, cards, letters, and gifts she received. She loved the staff and they loved her.

Barbara will forever be missed by her children, Shirleen (Ron) Bleth, Edie (Dennis) Pope, David (Cathy) Metz, Carol (Rod) Merkel, and Gregory (Tammy) Metz; son-in-law, Charlie Dassinger; grandchildren, Dustin (Patti) Dassinger, Rhonda (Chad) Tormaschy, Timothy (Renae) Bleth, Riley (Kylee) Merkel, Tyler (Stacy) Merkel, Mandy Merkel, Johnathan Metz and Janessa Metz; great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Alanta, and Sienna Tormaschy, Hunter, Cayden, and Ty Dassinger, Shelby and Trayson Bleth, Jordan and Molly Merkel; brothers, twin Christ (IIlene) Heiser and Frank (Francis) Heiser, and her closest friend, Marge (Frank) Koppinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on December 6, 2016, her parents, nine brothers and four sisters.

Thank you most precious mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend for all of the precious memories. We will love and miss you.
