Beatrice Coulter was born on April 18, 1933, the fifth of nine children born to Joseph and Maude (Trobough) Coulter. Her father died when she was very young, which gave her the responsibility to help raise her younger siblings. She babysat the neighbor’s kids, worked at the show hall and Pete’s Café while attending her school years in Belfield.

On September 22, 1952 she married John Syminow Jr. at the Naval Chapel in Seattle, Wash. After their marriage Bea spent many months working in Seattle while Johnny was out to sea. They returned to Fryburg in 1954 with a new daughter. She started working at the Fryburg School as a cook in 1960. She had various other jobs working at Franklin Fairway, Gold Seal in Medora, Belfield Dairy Queen and owned her own catering service for auctions with Krance/Stromme Auction Service. She sold the business in 1990 and continued to help her daughter run it for seven years. Her biggest joy was to cook for company and always made sure no one left hungry. Her favorite things to cook were three corners or her fresh homemade donuts that everyone loved. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bea and Johnny loved to dance. They were seen at countless weddings and anniversaries dancing polkas, waltzes and even rock-in-roll. They also did a lot of traveling to visit relatives for weddings, graduations, anniversaries and funerals. They never missed an opportunity to celebrate any occasion. They also traveled to Las Vegas and would spend winters there where Bea spent time playing bingo and gambling.

They were avid sports fans for the Heart River Cougars and would attend numerous sports activities which earned them the most dedicated Cougar Fan Award in 2011, which they were both very proud of. She was also a Lifetime Member of the Belfield American Legion Auxiliary.

Beatrice is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Johnny; three children, Kathy (Ray) Hecker, Sheridan, Wyo., Rodney “Rudy” (Rene) Syminow, Belfield and Lori (Leon) Armbrust , Belfield; five grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer) Hecker, Kari (Nick) Hawthorne, Brent (Kaala) Hecker, Cody (fiancé Crystal Hauck) Armbrust and Mandi (Mike) Wandler; three great-grandchildren, Ashton and Callie Hecker, Wyatt Hecker, and awaiting two great-grandchildren to be born this summer; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Dorothy Coulter, Belfield; and brother-in-law, Howard Finley, Stewartville, Minn.
