Bernard Solberg, 75, formerly of Grassy Butte, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at home in Hondo, Texas. There will be a rosary at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Bernie will be buried in the Grassy Butte Cemetery near Marjorie and Paul Solberg.

Bernie was born April 9, 1935 at Killdeer, ND to Paul and Marjorie (Cain) Solberg. His early school years were attended at Grassy Butte and he attended high school at Assumption Abbey in Richardton.

Bernie volunteered for the service and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, N.C., during his time in the U.S. Army. He married Joyce Goodman and moved to St. John, Kan., where he worked as an owner/operator truck driver. After moving to Liberal, Kan., he drove truck for Yellow Freight until he retired in 1995. He spent the next few years as a rancher on the family farm in Grassy Butte, (he fondly referred to it as the ‘poor farm’). He eventually retired and moved to Lemmon S.D., and spent his winters in Hondo, Texas.

Bernie is survived by two sons, John Solberg, Denver, Colo., and Tim (Dianne) Solberg, North Pole, Alaska; two daughters Sonya Solberg, Boyd, Minn., and Bernadette Ullrich, Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Tom (Katie) Solberg, Potter, Neb., and Jim Solberg, Home, Wash. He was preceded in death by Joyce and his parents.
