Bertha M. Sticka, 68, Bismarck, died Monday, July 13, 2015 at her home. Bertha’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary & vigil at 6:30 p.m., with Deacon Ralph Stockert presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services a the church on Saturday.
Bertha was born on May 19, 1947 to Michael and Rose (Hegel) Sticka. She was the oldest of 14 children and was raised on the family farm south of Dickinson. She graduated from Trinity High School and attended Capitol Commercial College in Bismarck. She worked at Gate City Savings for many years and later with Bank of North Dakota retiring in 2012.
As the eldest child in her family, Bertha was often a “second mom” to her younger siblings while growing up. She could often be found helping take care of the younger children and keeping them entertained. Bertha liked to read, sew, watch television, and loved to talk on the telephone with her siblings. Bertha was strong in her faith which guided her through the obstacles she faced during her lifetime.
Bertha is survived by her mother, Rose Sticka; and 11 sisters, Sarah (Don) Froehlich, Belfield, Janet Roller, Billings, Mont., LaVerne (Bob) Fichter, Bismarck, Marilyn (Arnie) Lefor, Fargo, Sandy (Jeff) Kadrmas, Brighton, Colo., Charlotte (Roger) Barnes, Commerce City, Colo., Renae (Garry) Bates, Dickinson, Connie (Steve) Garcia, San Antonio, Texas, Joyce (Dennis) Carlson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Debbie (Keith) Zastoupil and Laurie (Melvin) Zastoupil, Dickinson; brother-in-law, Wayne Gabbert, Montana City, Mont.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Mike; her brother Alvin; her sister, Linda Gabbert; and brothers in-law, Brian Reiter and Don Roller.
We are honored to have shared in her life and will greatly miss her.
