Betty Jane Kadrmas, 95, Belfield, died on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Benedictine Living Center, Dickinson. Betty’s Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Deacon Leonard Kordonowy presiding. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Betty was born on December 6, 1929 to John and Rose (Repetowski) Skurupey at Fairfield. She grew up on a farm with her three brothers and three sisters. The main focus of her early life was to always be working and be productive. She told stories of having nothing during the Great Depression, grazing cattle, and working with the thrashing crew in her young teenage years. This hard work philosophy stayed with her for her entire life.

On November 19th of 1946, Betty was wed to Frank Kadrmas and they started farming in the Indian Springs area east of Fairfield. Seeking better farmland, Frank and Betty and two children moved to Shelly, MN and bought land in the Red River Valley, but they were flooded out and after two years returned to North Dakota. They moved two miles east of Belfield where she resided on the family farm the rest of her life.

Betty kept herself busy milking cows most of her life, raising a huge garden, taking care of an apple orchard, her chickens, and raising six children. After making delicious meals from her gardening, canning, and even dehydrating, she would crochet, cross stitch, and make quilts from old clothes. She hated to see anything go to waste or anyone to be wasteful!

Betty was an avid reader and had a book exchange with many of her family members. She was still planting large gardens, her last one in May of 2025 as well as making her homemade bread every week. Betty made the best apple pies and donuts with homemade chocolate frosting. When you visited Betty, you were always welcomed with a smile and a feast that she would create from almost nothing. Betty remained in her home and fiercely independent until November 2025.

Betty is survived by her five children, Richard (Raylene Swanson) Amherst, NH, Rodney (Robin Mix), Huntington Beach, CA, Delbert (Rosanne Zastoupil), Belfield, Delores Werth (Jerry Werth, deceased), Bailey, CO, and Darlene Walter (Randy Walter) of Jamul, CA. Her daughter, Diane, passed away in December of 2022.

Betty had nine grandchildren, Tanya (Tony) Iannuzzi, Nichole (Andrew) Harris, Christy (Willie) Wangberg, Tina Mudd, Josh (Amanda) Kadrmas, Danielle (Mike) Tavis, Miranda (fiancé Trent Weise) Kadrmas, Derek Walter and Wayne Walter. Her great-grandchildren are Christan (Emily) Iannuzzi, and Catryna Iannuzzi, Calder and Shay Collins, Elizabeth and Claire Wangberg, Brantley, Briar, and Hayes Kadrmas, and Harper, Lochlan, and Hazel Tavis. Her first great-great grandchild was born in October of 2025 to Christan and Emily Iannuzzi, (Harper Emily Iannuzzi) of New Jersey. Betty has one sister that survives her, Cathy Brunsvold of Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank (April 10, 2006), and her daughter, Diane. Also, her sisters, Anna Dennis and Marie Makaruk; brothers, Walter, Fred, and Tony.
