Betty Jean Schleve, 68, Dickinson, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 as the result of injuries sustained from a fall outside her home. Betty Jean’s funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Pastor Tim Privratsky officiating. Interment will take place on Monday at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to service time.
Betty Jean Vatne was born January 30, 1942 at Bowman, the daughter of Rudy and Ruth (Egland) Vatne. She was raised and educated in Bowman, having graduated from Bowman High School in 1959. She married Ronald Sarsland in 1960.
Betty moved to Dickinson in the mid 1960’s. She worked at King’s Super Market, Big Sky Liquor, Master Bakery and as a receptionist for Dr. Patharoff and currently for Dr. Kilwein at West River Foot and Ankle Clinic. Betty Jean married Richard Schleve on July 4, 1990 at Apple Valley, Calif., with family and friends present.
Betty was a strong supporter of St. Jude’s, and loved watching the Minnesota Vikings. She enjoyed throwing darts, camping, outdoor activities, walking her dog Keisha, and listening to country music. Betty especially cherished time spent with her family (especially her grandchildren) and friends. As her children were growing up she took great interest in their friends and all of their activities.
Betty Jean is survived by her husband, Dick; her three children, Rae Jean (Gary) Zent, Dickinson, Doug (Tyrene) Sarsland, Dickinson, and Brad (Christy) Sarsland, Tigard, Ore.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three siblings, Eileen (Tom) Kalina, Bowman, Doris (Lawrence) Domagala, Bowman, and Marlin (Shannon) Vatne, Rhame; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Bobby) Holm.
