Betty Koenig, 85, Dickinson, ND, died Sunday, September 9, 2007 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, ND. Betty’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 13, 2007 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Austin Vetter as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m..

Betty (Elizabeth) Koenig was born September 1st, 1922 in Billings County, Fairfield, N.D., daughter of Nick and Monika (Keller) Haag. She died of cancer on September 9th, 2007 at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, N.D. surrounded by her family.

She came to Dickinson, N.D. in 1949 and worked for S&L Clothing Store as a sales clerk and manager of the Fashion Department.

Betty married Fred Koenig on May 25th, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. She was a bookkeeper for Koenig Oil Company for 35 years. Betty was a homemaker; her hobby was sewing for the family. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court of St. Catherine #323 since 1949. She was also a member of St. Monica’s Study Club since 1972 and a member of the Ministry of Praise. Since 1972, one hour was spent in front of the Blessed Sacrament every Tuesday from 9 am to 10 am.

Fred and Betty had their first vacation after being married 24 years. They eventually were able to travel four times to Europe (Switzerland, Germany, Rome, Venice, and Our Lady of Lourdes in France). They made many, many trips to visit their children and grandchildren in Minneapolis.

Betty’s eternal love and memories will always remain with her four children, ten grandchildren and family:
o Becky (and Mark) Roloff, Edina, MN; Emery (and Karen) Koenig, Waconia, MN; Mel (and Joanna) Koenig, Minnetonka, MN; a son-in-law Dr. Steven (and Jill) Leenay, Eden Prairie, MN;

o Luke and Samuel Roloff; Kristina, John, Joseph, and Catherine Koenig; Elizabeth and Adam Koenig; and Sophie and Anna Leenay.

o Three brothers, Martin (and Evelyn) Haag, Fairfield, ND, Leo Haag, Ralph (and Beverly) Haag, one sister, Regina “Jean” (and Eugene) Stockert, one sister-in-law, Helen Haag and one brother-in-law, Leo Hartman all from Dickinson, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred (April 16th, 2003), her daughter Madonna Koenig Leenay (October 1st, 1992), two sisters; Rose Haag and Clementine Hartman, a brother, Edward Haag, a sister-in-law, Florence Haag, a nephew, Thomas Haag, a niece, Sandra Haag, and a great-niece, Jennifer Haag.
