Bridget Schwindt, 97, Dickinson, died Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Bridget’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. William Ruelle as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Killdeer Cemetery, Killdeer. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Thursday, with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.
Bridget Kary was born at Fayette, to Anton and Magdalen (Berger) Kary on October 5, 1921. She grew up, worked on the farm and attended school at Fayette. Bridget would cook for the priests and bishops when they came to visit the St. Edward’s Catholic Church at Fayette, beginning at the age of eight because the church was located on land donated by her parents. She was married to Steve Schwindt at St. Edward’s Catholic Church on March 26, 1940. They lived in many places, including Tacoma, Wash. and Glen Ullin during their life before settling on the farm southwest of Killdeer for 40 years. They moved to Dickinson, where she resided until her death.
Bridget was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killdeer when they lived on the farm. She served as President of the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society at her Church. She was also a 4-H leader of Dunn County. In Dickinson, Bridget was active in her parish of St. Patrick’s, as well as in the community at Head Start, House of Manna and Amen Food Pantry. She was also a Foster Grandparent and was active in Eucharistic Adoration.
Bridget earned her GED after moving to Dickinson. She was always very proud of her children and grandchildren’s education and rejoiced with each as they graduated form high school and college and began their careers. Bridget also cherished each of her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.
Bridget loved her flower and vegetable gardens. She was always eager to share her flower plants with others, which now may be blooming in many gardens in Killdeer, Dickinson and in other parts of the state. Bridget enjoyed providing genealogical information to those in her family and community. Bridget spent a lot of time in prayer for her family in her later years, praying the Rosary each day for their needs.
Bridget lived in her own home until she moved to Benedict Court in July 2018 at the age of 96. She enjoyed her time at Benedict Court, sharing meals, telling and listening to stories and listening to old time music with old and new friends. She was grateful for the care provided to her at the end of her life by the staff there. She entered St. Benedict’s Heath Center on May 13, 2019 and passed away on Sunday morning with her daughter and caregiver Carla by her side.
Bridget is survived by her children, Al (Marilyn) Schwindt, Mike (Sharon) Schwindt, Francis (Carey) Schwindt, Koletta (LeRoy) Ficek, Steven Schwindt, Jr., Carla (Duff) Donelson; and Brian (Kirsten) Schwindt; son-in-law, Gary Moore; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her youngest sister, Katherine Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve after 71 years of marriage; three daughters, Stephanie Krehlik, Bridget Moore and Mary Magdalen; two sons, Anthony and Johnathan; one son-in-law, Victor Krehlik; one grandson, James Schwindt; and two great-grandchildren; her parents; seven sisters; and two brothers.
