Calvin Lundberg died peacefully on June 6, 2020 at the age of 91, at his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Rochester, Min. where he resided for the last 2 1/2 years. There will be a private family graveside service with military honors at the Dickinson Cemetery. Services will be provided by Rev. Jerry Stravia IV and the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. There will be a visitation on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Calvin Clifford Lundberg was born March 28, 1929 in Oakdale, the son of Nels and Harriet (Case) Lundberg, and grew up on a farm in the Killdeer Mountains.

Cal served in the US Army during the Korean War. After the war he completed his College degree at Dickinson State Teacher’s College. He then married Cathy Westlake on June 6, 1954. He also earned his Master’s in Education from UND.

Cal loved teaching and taught at Taylor High School, Dickinson High School and Dickinson State University. While at DSU he instituted the Driver’s Education Program and supervised lots of student teachers. He could be found at all the home football games running the clock.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and belonged to many groups including Kiwanis, American Legion, VFW and Forty and Eight. Cal was also a member of the Stark County Veteran’s Association and helped to raise money for the Memorial Park and Pavilion.

Two of his biggest honors were receiving the Golden Hawk Award from DSU and the Distinguished Service Award from the American Legion.
