Carina Marie (Obritsch) Ficek 85, went to her eternal heavenly rest on Friday, August 21, 2026. Carina’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. CT, August 27, 2026 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Olathe Kansas. There will be a Rosary at 6 P.M. CT, Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan at a later date.
Carina was born June 24, 1941 in Dickinson, ND to Adam and Mary Obritsch.
She was raised and grew up on the family farm, south of South Heart, ND. She attended country school in South Heart and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in New England, ND. She attended one year at Dickinson State University.
Carina married the love of her life Adolph Ficek Jr. on October 15, 1963. They had three children: Jeff, Mark, and Lori. They lived on the family farm north of Dickinson.
In addition to managing the Ficek household, Carina was employed with EyeWear Concepts in Dickinson, ND for many years.
Carina loved tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and visiting with friends and playing cards. She took great pride in cooking and baking for her family. When help was needed on the farm she would lend a hand running farm equipment, driving truck, opening/closing gates, and mowing the yard, just to name a few.
In October 2025, Carina moved to Olathe, KS to live with her daughter Lori and son-in-law Tiff. Carina was a devout Catholic praying the rosary daily and attending Mass in person or on her iPad.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, she found her greatest joy in caring for the people she loved. Her kindness was constant, her heart was generous, and her love was unconditional. She will be deeply missed.
Carina is survived by her children; Jeff (Michelle) Ficek, Fargo, ND, Mark (Sandi) Ficek, Kearney, NE, and Lori (Tiff) Achtenberg, Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Katy (Stephen) Akins, Allyson (Jon) Seltvedt, Taylor (Danny) Begasse, Colton (Abby) Achtenberg, and Aaron Ficek; great grandchildren, Atlas, Ember, and Briar Seltvedt, Stowe Begasse; brother, Mike (Brenda) Obritsch ; and sister-in-law, Joanne Simon.
Carina was preceded in death by her husband of 61 yrs. Adolph Ficek Jr.; her parents Adam and Mary (Obritsch) Schmidt; her brother, Frank Simon; her sister, Dianne (Obritsch) Eck; sister-in-law, Eleanor (Ficek) Phillips; brother-in-laws, Bob Eck and Lorence Phillips.
