Carl Svendsen was born April 24, 1938, at Culbertson, Mont., the son of Thorval and Theodora “Dora” (Jensen) Svendsen. Following high school he served honorably in the United States Army. He returned from the Army and made Beach, N.D., his home. While in Beach he was the plant manager for Miracle Gas. He also met and married Darlene Nelson, and together they had a daughter, Deb. He had also worked at the Weigh Station in Beach, and as a salesman for hardy Motors, West Plains Implement, and John Deere. Carl had a terrific personality and could sell you just about anything, but was so honest when doing so.

His passion in life was his horses. He raised many horses, competed in team roping, and his best afternoon was sitting at a horse sale anywhere. He had taught his daughter, Deb how to ride a horse when she was very young. School wasn’t so important to Carl, but to know all about horses sure was.

Carl was united in marriage to Patricia Davis on December 19, 1996 in Wibaux, Mont. He loved people and being around others. He was a great joke teller, and was always ready with a great joke to tell. Most often he would laugh as much as the person he was telling. Carl was a great dancer and a smooth Waltzer. Working for John Deere was one of his greatest memories, as Mike and Mark Ballard were very good to him and he appreciated it, and loved the help that worked there.

To Deb she’ll miss the Thursday morning breakfasts with her dad, and chat with the cronies. His grandson, Bronson commented following Grandpa’s death that, “Well Heaven sure gained a great story teller”.

Carl is survived by his wife, Pat, Dickinson; daughter, Deb Lewis, Dickinson; grandson, Bronson Lewis, Dickinson; step-daughters, Leah (Matthew) Green, Dickinson, and Sherri White, Bucyrus; step-grandchildren, Cayden Welch and Deidra (Shiloh) Jung; step-great-granddaughter, Braelee White; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Svendsen. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Johnny Svendsen; and sister, Marian Hall.
