She married Gerald Rettig on June 8, 1959 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. After their marriage, they moved to Maxbass, where they farmed until 1981. They moved back to Dickinson when they retired. While in Maxbass, Caroline belonged to St. Patrick’s Church Alter Society, Garden Club, Community Club, Bottineau County Board, and the Social Services board. Caroline’s hobbies included reading, bowling, dancing, swimming, gardening, and traveling. A highlight of her travels was going on numerous Mystery Trips with her friends. She also especially loved playing cards which she did almost daily at Evergreen Assisted Living facility where she resided since December 2018. In December 2020, she moved to St. Benedict’s Health Center.

Caroline was a quiet, caring, gentle soul who always had a positive attitude and kind words for others. When asked, her best advice to others was to always keep going no matter what hurt. She loved spending time with family, especially her nieces and nephews and their families. She was dearly loved and will be forever missed.

Caroline is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald on July 2, 1987; her parents; and her two brothers and their spouses, Richard (Marian) Lefor and Edwin (Delores) Lefor.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Evergreen Retirement Center where she was a resident. She was cared for, respected, and treated as if she was a member of their family.
