Charles Faiman was born May 8, 1926 to Joseph and Mary (Polensky) Faiman. He grew up 2 ½ miles north of New Hradec and was educated through the 8th grade at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School in New Hradec. He farmed with his parents on this farm until the fall of 1945 when they purchased the current farm north of South Heart. Charles married Gladys Pavlicek on April 22, 1952 and they continued farming at this location until their retirement in 1991. They rented the farmland and continued to reside on the family farm.

Charles enjoyed working with the land and planning what he was going to seed the next year. He raised certified seed wheat, oats and barley and met many friends while selling and cleaning seed for them. He also had a passion for any type of wildlife. He enjoyed watching the deer walking at their leisure through the yard, because they knew it was always safe there. During the fall and winter he enjoyed watching hundreds of pheasants roosting in the shelter belt behind the house. Charles and Gladys enjoyed the wildlife so much that they eventually took a piece of land behind the farm and turned it into a sanctuary for ducks, geese, cranes, deer and many more animals. Charlie enjoyed reading, playing cards and watching television. During his retirement he enjoyed sitting in the mall visiting with people while Gladys did her shopping. They also were able to travel throughout the United States and visited his cousin Cis in Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand.

Charles died peacefully in his sleep the afternoon of September 11, 2010 at St. Benedict’s Health Center. He leaves behind his wife Gladys, daughter Connie (Leo) Fichter, two grandchildren: Rachel (Adam) Gillen and Elizabeth Kadrmas, and two rambunctious little great-grandsons: Trenton and Taelen Gillen.

He was preceded in death by two infant children LaVonne and Gary Faiman, his parents Joseph and Mary Faiman, his father and mother in-law: Joseph and Minnie Pavlicek, along with several aunts and uncles.
