Charles F. “Chuck” “Jake” “Wiggy” Wighaus, 85, Dickinson, died on Friday, May 26, 2023 at his home. Chuck’s Liturgy of Word Service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2023 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Deacon Ross Reiter presiding. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military Honors will be provide by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Charles F. Wighaus was born on April 26, 1938 in East Williams, New York, the son of Charles and Anna (Birkenbusch) Wighaus. He attended Corpus Christi School and Mineola High School in Mineola, NY. Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956 to 1960, serving as a radar operator in Misawa, Japan and Dickinson, ND.
Chuck met and married Margaret Anton while stationed in Dickinson. Together they moved to Hicksville, NY and started their family with the birth of their daughter, Margaret Ann “Peggy”. Chuck worked for the United States Parcel Service and co-owned a gas station with his brother-in-law, Pete while in NY. In 1971 the family moved back to ND where he worked for Husky Truck Stop, Anfinson Car Care Center and Parkway Ford Service for ten years, retiring in 2000. He continued part-time at Parkway, chasing cars throughout the Upper Midwest States.
Chuck enjoyed bowling, playing cards and Saturday morning breakfast with the guys. He was also a Golden Age Eagles member.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Peggy; sister-in-law, Ilse Wigaus, NY; special nieces and nephew, Diane Perkowski, Trish Penrose and John Wighaus; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, August Wighaus; sisters, Catherine Loss, Elizabeth Burr, and Anne (Pete) Perkowski.
