Charles D. Finck, 76, Dickinson and Lake Havasu, Ariz., died suddenly at Havasu Regional Medical Center, on Saturday, November 19, 2016, due to a massive stroke. A Celebration of Life Service for Charles will be at 10 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton officiating. Inurnment will take place at Hope Congregational Cemetery, Elgin with Rev. Bethany Haberstroh officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the DSU Heritage Foundation, 291 Campus Drive, Dickinson.

Charlie was born on December 2, 1939 in Fargo, son of Paul Phillips and Agnes Finck and from a very young age he was raised by his grandparents, Adam and Julia Finck. He attended elementary and middle school in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School.

Charlie obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Dickinson State University. He earned his Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Louisiana State University in 1972. He married Judith Marlene Laub in 1963 and together they had three children, Nancy, Brian and Steven. Charlie taught math, science and computers at Belfield High School, Dickinson High School and Hagen Junior High School. He dedicated himself to helping shape thousands of young minds. He finished his career in Administration with Dickinson Public Schools.

He loved to golf and watch his beloved Blue Hawks play football. Charlie loved to strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, on any topic. He will be greatly missed.

Charlie is survived by his wife Judy, his three children and their spouses, Nancy (Dennis) Garboden, Eugene, Ore., Brian (Cindy) Finck, Eureka, Calif., and Steven (Kelli) Finck, Mound, Minn., and his eight grandchildren, Gabriel, Garrison, MacKenzie, Hannah, Avery, Sage, Ruby and Charles; half-brother, Richard Ciavarella, Bismarck; half-sisters, Mary Bitz, Bismarck and Betty Rykowsky, Bismarck.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Phillips and Agnes Finck; and grandparents, Adam and Eva Finck.
